Brief Answers to The Big Questions

“However difficult life may seem, there is always something you can do and succeed at. It matters
that you don’t just give up.”
that you don’t just give up.”
Have you had times when you’d been let down? Been discouraged? Times when you want to forget
about what you love doing the most? We all probably have, but you don’t have to stop when the
wall gets in your way. I know a man, who’s not alive today, and he’s overcome every obstacle
thrown at him. His name was Stephen Hawking. In my opinion, he’s one of the greatest people
who’ve ever lived.

One of the greatest difficulties he faced was, at the age of 21. Hawking was diagnosed with a neurotic disorder called amyotrophic lateral sclerosis. He was paralysed and set on a wheelchair and he lost his voice. He wasn’t expected to live after his 20’s. He realised at the hospital, that he shouldn’t stop trying in his life, and decided to continue with his life’s ambition and continued his studies. Despite the hardships he faced with his disease, he is one of the most celebrated scientists of modern times.
He’s had several times when the doctor’s told him he couldn’t make it, and maybe even his fellow
researchers, but he just kept doing what he loved and it’s one of the qualities he has that I really
admire.
When I was small, I used to be a very curious child, I’ve always wanted to know more about the things
around me, and from a particularly young age, I’ve had an interest on space and how time changes
there. Hawking used to be a very curious child too, and close members of his family have revealed
that he used to want to know everything about stars and how they got there.

An important quality I think everyone should develop is the ability to question something, to try and develop an interest and really think about our surroundings, and that’s another quality I really admire in Hawking.
A few years before his death, he decided to challenge Newtons theory of the world being made by god. Even though it sounds impossible to prove, Hawking gave it a shot. I feel it’s a very important lesson to learn as well, never be scared of trying something new.
Stephen Hawking has always been an inspiration to me, and every time I’m disappointed about
something, he reminds me to continue doing what I love.
